The origins of Salies-de-Béarn actually date back to the Bronze Age, around 1500 BC. At that time, Salies-de-Béarn salt was already being extracted by evaporating brine in ceramic pots discovered during archaeological excavations. The settlement was then centered around the Houn Salade, or the Salt Spring, from which brine naturally flowed.
